Achtbare Gesellschaft für Dual 7xx GeneralÜberholung?

  • Liebe Dual-Forum-Mitglieder,

    Danke im Voraus!

    Mit besten Grüßen
    Andrey

    P.S.

    Dear Dual-Forum Members,

I am looking here for your advice. I am sorry for my German language – it is electronic translation from English language.

I plan to buy 7xx Dual on German ebay and send it for overhaul. I would buy turntable in good condition, but I would like to provide full professional service. Oiling, check all electrical and mechanical parts, antiskating and other functions – to ensure trouble-free operation for years ahead. I can make it in my home-country, but German specialists have more experience with Dual and have access to spare parts, if necessary.

I tried to contact Rolf-Jürgen Berendt from www.special-hifi.de (Dusseldorf), that proposed their services on ebay. I was negatively impressed with his arrogance and unwillingness to deal with customers from abroad.

Can you recommend highly professional company or individual for Dual overhaul, that would be able to receive delivery by post, and after service deliver by DHL Paket International?

And if possible – accept PayPal payments.

And if possible – speak basic English. :)

The location within Germany does not matter. Although my intuition tells me that it could be close to St.-Georgen… :)

    Thanks in advance!

    With best regards

    Andrey

  • Moin,

ich stelle fest: es gibt noch kein Computerprogram das richtig übersetzen kann.
    (noch nicht)

I guess the most people here are able to understand english.
    Where are you from?

The best for you would be to buy a good Dual from a member of this forum.
Here are writing some of the most advanced Dual technicans worldwide.
And time by time they need to reduce their collection...

    Have a nice day

    Gruß Bernd

  • Hello.

I have no problems with your conditions. Please, sends me personal message about this forum.

  • Andrey,

that's it - buying a DUAL turntable from somebody from this Board would lower the risk to get a turntable which is not working properly and/or to avoid shipping damages (caused by improper packing of the turntable)

    Have success, Stefan

  • I think, most sellers of turntables on german ebay will make a "crash during transport" in cause of wrong packaging. In this reason would it be better, to buy a good one from a member of this board, who is professional in Record-Player-Shipping. Look at our "Marketplace" which are named in german "Kleinanzeigen". The "Biete"-Area is for selling, the "Suche"-Area for searching. The "Tausche"-Area is to exchange different kinds of things to other things, like a "Elvis"-Record against a "Eric Clapton"-Record or a turntable-part against an other. Good Luck.

  • Hi, Berndt!

I'm from Moscow, Russia. We have a huge fraternity of vinyl lovers here, but nowadays they're mostly either in Micro-Seiki/Thorens camp, or earlier idler stuff. Duals were popular here in the 80s, but with appearance of "HiEnd" ;) they started to be considered Mid-Fi. (And I disagree) There are many local vynil technicians here, but not with real hand and feeling for Dual.

And I am looking specifically for Dual 7xx, cause I have original and untouched Shure V15 V-MR, that I personally bought in early 90's in US. :) I do not want to go into Thorens/SME3009 game, or MC-cartridges, I just need a solid and reliable player with good lightweight arm, solid mechanics and perfect cosmetics (for my taste). I have a pretty revealing music system, but vynil at any measure is a secondary media for me now. Dual in a perfect condition and maintenance would be the right fit for me.

I placed my post here exactly because I found out it's the right place to find the best Dual technicians. To let me better understand who is who here - what are the names of these Guru Technicians?

    Thanks for a feedback!

    Kind regards,
    Andrey

  • Hi, Stefan-stbeer and Stefan-Retrostyle, thanks for your feedback!

Really, ebay is a very specific place ;). Duals there are ranging from a garage or liquidation sales, to the proposals of insane used-hifi resellers that use every chance to squeeze maximum Euros from uninformed buyers.

I will try to seach here, but on the other hand - you need to know the seller is the right person (in terms of equipment maintenance) anyway.

    My best regards,
    Andrey

  • Hello Andrey,

For all I know, this community takes pride in helping out as best as they can, especially if it is about underestimated heavy duty machines, like the ones from St. Georgen.

Anyway the idea to buy in the marketplace of this forum, may suit your interests best, for there is hardly anything more harmful to a turntable than "the postal gorilla´s special care and love" (as someone on a US-forum has put it very well).

If the table goes only one way, and well prepared, the damage will be the least. So I do hope very much, that you want to give your original plan a second thought.

I personally don´t think you will find better offers in terms of "bang for the buck" anywere on the planet.

If you strongly believe in the magic of a master´s touch (like i think you do), then try to look around this place, and follow your instincts. Maybe the following link is a good point to start with:

    Cheers - Detlef

  • Hallo Detlef,

    Thanks for advice!

To be honest I do not believe in magic of any origin, but I just thought about proper servicing of a god turntable before it would get a new home. Like with used cars (although I have never bought a used one...) - you buy it, and at first day it goes to the service to replace all the oils and liquids. Somehow turntables are less complicated than cars and more sensitive to transportation damage... But, anyway, thanks for sharing - I would consider this!
