    Hallo!

Dear Dual restauration profi - this theme is written for your attention!

I would like to provide full service to Dual 701 - that is in good technical and cosmetic state - but need this service to eliminate some minor problems and ensure trouble-free operation for years ahead. Full service must include addressing all mechanical and electronic operational issues.

It is located in Dortmund now, and could be either delivered to the workshop by parcel service (properly packed) or picked up in person, if you are located close to Dortmund.

After the restoration is completed, the turntable have to be extremely well packed and sent via DHL Paket International to my address in Moscow, Russia.

You have to be able to accept PayPal payments. Unfortunately, I do not speak German, and it would be great if we can communicate in English.

Looking for a contact with a highly professional specialist in mechanical/electronic restauration of Dual 701 turntables!

    Kind regards, Andrey

P.S. Hi Gernot/Papaschlumpf! I've sent you 3 personal messages in 3 weeks, but was not lucky to get a reply, although you agreed to provide this services. :?:

    Hallo Detlef,

    Thanks for advice!

To be honest I do not believe in magic of any origin, but I just thought about proper servicing of a god turntable before it would get a new home. Like with used cars (although I have never bought a used one...) - you buy it, and at first day it goes to the service to replace all the oils and liquids. Somehow turntables are less complicated than cars and more sensitive to transportation damage... But, anyway, thanks for sharing - I would consider this!

Hi Ralph, thanks for your opinion!

Do you listen to rock/pop or classical?
Are you a 100%-vintage-man or can hear all the limitations of an older audio-gear?
Do you value mostly sound that is "musical and involving" (at a cost of coloration and some other artificiality) or "linear and transparent window into the reality of recorded sound - good is good, and bad is bad - and you appreciate it as it is, because no type of coloration can make it better for your ears"?

Just trying to understand your criteria for musical satisfaction... :)

    Best regards,
    Andrey

    Hi Lutz, thanks for feedback!

Yes, the needle on the cartridge is original and untouched, so compliance of 32 should be expected. Although the cantilever holder gets stiffer with age, it cannot be measured or predicted anyway.

Generally, 714/731 tonearm was developed in 1977-78 with Dual-Ortofon alliance ULM-cartridges in mind, but in these years Shure V15 IV was developed already, and in magazines' tests of these years it is named the ultimate choice for these turntables. What attracts me is tunable antiresonator, that seems to be more progressive solution for damping resonances than on earlier models (although the earlier models were developed for direct predecessor of Shure V15 V - III, with the same mass, dimensions and compliance).

What would be the optimal solution in your opinion? 701-721? They have quite a different arms...

Your opinion is based on some technical issues, you faced with these setups (resonances, bass uncertainty), or type of musical presentation that seems to you more convincing?

    Best regards,
    Andrey

Hi, Stefan-stbeer and Stefan-Retrostyle, thanks for your feedback!

Really, ebay is a very specific place ;). Duals there are ranging from a garage or liquidation sales, to the proposals of insane used-hifi resellers that use every chance to squeeze maximum Euros from uninformed buyers.

I will try to seach here, but on the other hand - you need to know the seller is the right person (in terms of equipment maintenance) anyway.

    My best regards,
    Andrey

    Hi, Berndt!

I'm from Moscow, Russia. We have a huge fraternity of vinyl lovers here, but nowadays they're mostly either in Micro-Seiki/Thorens camp, or earlier idler stuff. Duals were popular here in the 80s, but with appearance of "HiEnd" ;) they started to be considered Mid-Fi. (And I disagree) There are many local vynil technicians here, but not with real hand and feeling for Dual.

And I am looking specifically for Dual 7xx, cause I have original and untouched Shure V15 V-MR, that I personally bought in early 90's in US. :) I do not want to go into Thorens/SME3009 game, or MC-cartridges, I just need a solid and reliable player with good lightweight arm, solid mechanics and perfect cosmetics (for my taste). I have a pretty revealing music system, but vynil at any measure is a secondary media for me now. Dual in a perfect condition and maintenance would be the right fit for me.

I placed my post here exactly because I found out it's the right place to find the best Dual technicians. To let me better understand who is who here - what are the names of these Guru Technicians?

    Thanks for a feedback!

    Kind regards,
    Andrey

    Liebe Dual-Forum-Mitglieder,

    Danke im Voraus!

    Mit besten Grüßen
    Andrey

    Dear Dual-Forum Members,

I am looking here for your advice. I am sorry for my German language – it is electronic translation from English language.

I plan to buy 7xx Dual on German ebay and send it for overhaul. I would buy turntable in good condition, but I would like to provide full professional service. Oiling, check all electrical and mechanical parts, antiskating and other functions – to ensure trouble-free operation for years ahead. I can make it in my home-country, but German specialists have more experience with Dual and have access to spare parts, if necessary.

I tried to contact Rolf-Jürgen Berendt from www.special-hifi.de (Dusseldorf), that proposed their services on ebay. I was negatively impressed with his arrogance and unwillingness to deal with customers from abroad.

Can you recommend highly professional company or individual for Dual overhaul, that would be able to receive delivery by post, and after service deliver by DHL Paket International?

And if possible – accept PayPal payments.

And if possible – speak basic English. :)

The location within Germany does not matter. Although my intuition tells me that it could be close to St.-Georgen… :)

    Thanks in advance!

Was würden Sie, basiert auf Ihre Erfahrung empfehlen?
    Danke im Voraus!

    Mit mit besten Grüßen

I have a new phono cartridge Shure V15 TypeV-MR, that I purchased in early 90’s. I am planning to purchase Dual 7xx turntable, and have a question. Which tonearm/turntable combination would be able to open potential of the cartridge fully – 721, 704, 731/714?

I know all technical details about them, but never had a chance to listen personally.
    721
+ solid construction, VTA, no need for cartridge adapters, tonearm developed with Shure V15 in mind
    - need for manual speed correction, hum/rumble could be better, non-adjustable anti-resonance device
    704
+ the same as for 721
    - the same as for 721, weaker motor, more hum and rumble
    731/714
+ speed control, better hum and rumble, adjustable anti-resonance device
    - no VTA, need for cartridge adaptor, lighter tonearm developed with ULM-cartridges in mind, and tonearm resonance shifts a bit lower, more ‘plastic’ construction

What would you recommend, based on your experience?
    Thanks in advance!
