• Hallo zusammen!

I’m really sorry that I’m writing this in English. I promise that I’ll translate it into German as soon as possible. The thing is, writing something in German takes me AGES, and I really need to write this right away.

I want to say thanks to the members of the forum, especially to Norbert (noko), for all your help. I found a 1008 in a streetmarket some time ago, and I have taken it to a tech person a lot of times, but there is always something new to fix. Norbert kindly sent me some spare parts that were very useful, and thanks to this I can now say that I am the proud owner of a fully functional Dual 1008. Thing of beauty!

Well, I got the spare parts from noko last year, but my local tech person is an aged man, and he was quite sick for some time. Then his wife was diagnosed with cancer, and I didn’t dare bothering him for some time. But he eventually fixed a problem with the tonearm and now everything is working fine. Only the spindle still needs some servicing.

I’m leaving a link to a video of my 1008 here. Enjoy.

    Best regards.

  • A nice old player, although it is not high end. I read a lot about this type in this "forum", but i saw it first time in your video. Really nice.

  • Genau!

I especially like this turntable's design. I might be wrong (I'm no specialist) but I think I can see a lot of the Streamline-Moderne style in it. According to this Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streamline_Moderne) this style emerged in the 1930's. It emphasized curving forms, long horizontal lines, and was characterized by subdued colors (base colors were typically ... off-whites, or beiges; and trim colors were typically dark colors to contrast from the light base) This turntable has all this!

In industrial design, "the style was applied to appliances such as electric clocks, sewing machines, small radio receivers..." and "their manufacturing processes exploited developments in materials science including ... bakelite." (see the tonearm, the tonearm holder, the speed switch, etc!!)

So, on top of all the history this record player carries with it, it seems to be an expression of a whole architectural style!

Nevertheless, I'm really interested in travelling to Germany in 2016 or 2017 and visiting St Georgen and the Phonomuseum! I'd love to purchase a new Dual record player from Alfred Fehrenbacher while in there!

    Liebe Grüße :D

    Hi Nelson,
do you have someone at hand who is a mechanic specialised in Metal?
Maybe he can help you with the spindle. Try to catch an old mechanic worker and describe your problem.

    Cheers,
    Dirk

  • Oh, thanks for the suggestion. I don't think I know any such person, but the problem with my spindle is much more simple than that--two of the little pieces of rubber that lift the records fell off. I think I can fix that myself. I wonder if epoxy glue (Araldite) will be fit for the job.

    Thanks
